About SnappyDisk

SnappyDisk is about storage: the drives you buy, and the space you’re always running out of.

Drive marketing is built around a handful of flattering numbers: a peak speed, a capacity, a warranty length. The specifications that actually predict how a drive will feel to use tend to be further down the page, or missing from it. We write for the person standing in front of that spec sheet trying to work out which of the numbers matter.

What we cover

Drives decodes the terminology: what TLC and QLC mean for how a drive ages, why sustained write speed collapses after the first few gigabytes, what a TBW rating is actually promising. These are written to stay useful after the specific model on sale this month is gone.

Free Up Space covers the other half of the problem: getting room back on a drive you already own, before concluding you need a bigger one.

Troubleshooting is for when a drive stops behaving: slow transfers, a disk the machine won’t recognise, or the early signs that one is failing.

Corrections

Storage specifications change quietly. Manufacturers revise controllers and flash inside a product without changing the model name, so a page that was accurate when published can drift. Articles carry a last-updated date.

If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us. We correct pages in place rather than quietly pulling them.
